About Monument

Monument is one of 160 statutory towns in the state of Colorado. Statutory towns are maintained by an elected mayor and a board of trustees. The Town of Monument is located at the base of Rampart Range, a portion of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. Rampart Range is a part of the Pike National Forest which takes up over one million acres across various counties in Colorado. Monument is located in El Paso County, the most populous county in the state, though the town itself has a population of a little more than 5,000 people. Monument is located near Colorado Springs and the United States Air Force Academy.

Monument is the definition of small-town charm. The town is home to small, local businesses rather than huge retail stores. The town is also considered a “school-choice” community, which means families have more widespread options than publicly provided schools. Because of school-choice, Monument is home to not only public schools, but plenty of private, charter, and home schooling options.

Monument was established in 1879 and is located just ten minutes from big-city excitement. The town is friendly, historic, beautiful, and community-oriented!
